Background History
Understanding Nate Wilmer really begins with understanding his father and his mother. Nate’s father Christopher had been orphaned at an early age, when Tholian raiders had annexed territory on the colony world where he lived. The raid had left very few survivors. Christopher had been adopted by a Vulcan family, having no living relatives, and had been raised in the Vulcan philosophy of IDIC. However, not possessing the natural Vulcan mental abilities of self-control and mental discipline had been difficult for Christopher. Often times his human mind would mistake control of ones emotions, for cold, disconnected anti-social behavior.
As he matured, this mentality continued on into his adulthood, only further causing him to disconnect from those around him and being emotionally disconnected from his wife Adelaide and his son Nate.
Nate was born into Starfleet and the Vulcan raised Christopher Wilmer had poor parental instincts. Both of Nate’s parents were Starfleet to the core, having devoted their entire lives to service. Nate was a fourth generation Starfleet brat, having been born in sickbay at Utopia Planitia Fleetyards. His childhood had been spent in play on holodecks; his life was influenced by an entire family of Starfleet, his toys were tricorders, his sole ambition was a life of service in space.
The first time he’d set foot on a natural planetoid, was an experience of less excitement and disappointment. After all, a planet could not take you places that a starship could.
So when Nate came of age, he had devoted himself to being the exact opposite of his father. He would be full of emotion and passion. He would find the career success of Starfleet, but without the passionless disconnection his father enjoyed.
