Chief Engineer
Personality:
Tika is one of a kind. She has been through some terrible experiences in her lifetime, but she has somehow managed to keep herself out of the counselor’s office or a rehabilitation colony. What’s her secret to not being a dark and dreary depressive with her background? Ask her and she might tell you, or just smile and share a glass of tranya.
Tika is all about having fun,on duty or off. Sure, no one works harder than the young officer, but she has a way of making even the most mundane tasks into something interesting. In her posts, her teams have the highest efficiency ratings on their respective ships as well as high scores on crew satisfaction surveys.
She loves her work, and often spends her off duty hours in Engineering just for the enjoyment of the surroundings. |

Background History
Tika is the third of five children of Mara, a Starfleet engineer, and Teven, a nurse. They were taking some time between deep space assignments after the birth of their youngest son when the Dominion War began. Desperate times called for desperate measures. Mara was shipped out on a Federation warship while the rest of the family stayed safely protected on Betazed.
Betazed, one of the core planets of the mighty Federation, fell in the first months of the Dominion War in a sneak attack. The enemy quickly went to work scouring the planet for subjects for their warped experiments. Tika was chosen for one of the Cardassian medical camps to examine if the Betazoid telepathy could be weaponized and used against the Federation.
Many Betazoids suffered and died in the medical camps, but the Cardassian efforts bore bitter fruit. They awakened portions of the subjects’ telepathic abilities that had gone untapped. The mad scientists and soldiers of the camp died horribly at the hands of their experiments. Not all of the subjects emerged from the charnel houses of the mad scientists with their sanity intact. Some could not live with what they had been turned into and killed themselves rather than live with their memories and horrifically warped abilities.
Tika was one of the few survivors of the camp to emerge seemingly unscathed. In the aftermath of the occupation, she was thoroughly studied and examined. There were parts of Tika’s brain that had been subjected to alterations at the hands of the Cardassians in their efforts to weaponize her psionic abilities. Her abilities with other life forms had escaped unaltered, but she had a new and previously unseen trait. Tika claimed she could communicate with complex but non-sentient mechanisms. Her doctors at first thought this was some kind of psychosis due to her harrowing experiences, but she demonstrated she was capable of determining issues with computers or other mechanical systems demonstratably equal to or often better than standard diagnostics methods. She spent years undergoing further annoying study until she was of age to make her own decisions, where she applied to Starfleet Academy and was immediately accepted.
Tika was a natural fit for the Engineering track, but she struggled in her dealings with people. Most of her adolescence was spent being studied or treated by either Dominion or Federation scientists, and she had to catch up on a lot of interpersonal relationship issues. She made many mistakes along the way, but she eventually caught up with those of her age group.
Tika performed with distinction with her assignments, enjoying both the work and the new freedoms away from constant scrutiny by curious scientists. |
